Attila Szucs, born in 1967, is one of Hungary‚'s most important contemporary painters.Uncanny, melancholic and peculiar, Attila Szucs can transform an innocent scene into a surreal, ghostly one. The blurriness of the represented figures-often displayed in desolate spaces- and the masterful use of light, shadows and rough colours that seem to fade create a kind of disturbing but pleasant state of sedateness.
‘I attempt to dissolve the already defined and often false structures, and introduce new types of looking in a peculiar formal and compositional levitation, where the paintings’ vacuum-like state partially originates in the loneliness of represented elements, and partially from the transformation of metaphysical into universal’.
