DROPSHOP: DIANGO HERNÁNDEZ, BEACHERS : PHILLIPS Los Angeles

26 February - 1 March 2026
Overview
Diango Hernández is a Cuban-born artist based in Düsseldorf, whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, sculpture, and installation. His work has been widely exhibited internationally and is held in major public collections worldwide. Through recurring motifs of water, waves, and distortion, Hernández explores memory, movement, and the fluid nature of lived experience, connecting personal history with collective imagination.

Beachers is a Dropshop curated by Phillips and hosted at Phillips’ Los Angeles venue. The title derives from Playeros, the largest painting in the presentation—a term that in Cuba describes a deep, enduring attachment to the beach.

The presentation brings together paintings from Hernández’s Olaísmo and Pools series. Shaped by waves, distortion, and fluidity, these works explore water as a space of memory, movement, and contemplation, where the beach is understood not as scenery but as a lived condition.
